no small wonder

Contributed by elle on Thursday, 22nd January 2009 @ 11:27:14 AM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

I cried.
we fumbled with notions
of not knowing
what we'd done.
I wept.
& empty,
I sighed into breathe
too painful to restrain.
I collapsed my head
onto your lap
& we rode. . .
drained to exhaustion
with the levy
of our mistake.
our words fell away to silence,
as if meaning
no longer existed.
You drove
past trivial corners. . .
through the bustle of life,
beyond the cities' noise & drone.
signs & sky flashed
above the windshield
& I realized I was no longer me.
we, no longer we.
we arrived, after a time,
to a neighborhood
perfect, by many standards.
a home beckoned
with the pleasant feel
of care. . .
the driveway. . .
both sides lined
with a sea of tulips,
resplendent
in their elegant
buffalo stance.
you whispered to me
& took my hand.
raised my head. . .
"look" you said.
you knew I loved the springtime.
I remember, to this day,
your desperate attempt
to free me of the pain.
simple treasures
to heal my wounded soul.
no small wonder. . .
I loved you, so.

absolutely wonderful. word and time perfect. One of the best pieces I have read on this sight, the perfect capture of the moments is spell binding. Thank You I.B.

lovely sentiment, elle; great metaphorical recounting and such lovely turn of phrase. A snippet of mystery with a wash of the familiar.

This is a really good poem. I love the descriptive imagery. Thank you for taking us along for the ride in the car you had that day. You made it very beautiful.

Take care,

Tim
