Chain of Pain

She said wearily
'I am trapped
in the Chain of Desperation
trying to break free;
my mother passed it along
to me,
and her mother to her and on
down to me.
One destroyed soul
seeks its own repair
but only partial healing
is possible for most of us.
And as luck would have it
we fail more times than we succeed;
sometimes consoling ourselves
with the belief
'at least I am better than she.'
But we are shocked to see
perhaps,
that not as true
as we believe
when we see it in our children.
My moment of truth in my parenting
is when we see
in my child
traits
that can and could only have come
from me.
No denying it.
What to do?
Realize or confess its true
or reject the Me
I see in the child
I alone reared?
Rejection is the first step
in keeping the chain intact.
so the
Chain of Pain
grows
and expands.
My vow
by the time she is
eight
is to stop
the Chain in its tracks
by overcoming the Me in Her
with the sheer
force
of
my
love.

the truth is relentless. it will keep coming around
in whatever form it must to be recognized. I find
in my own life that even the lessons are a blessing.
nice ending. peace. elle |
