A Farewell Christmas

Contributed by redtempest13 on Sunday, 14th December 2008 @ 07:56:40 PM in AEST
Topic: goodbyepoetry

Christmas trees with many lights,

Presents wrapped all red and green,

Children laughing, singing carols,

All in all it's quite a scene.

The children's parents hugging close,

Family, friends, and nieghbors too,

All are filled with Christmas cheer,

What a wonderful day to be with you!

Your eyes so bright,

Your smile so clear,

I proposed on this night,

Was it only last year?

I remember your face,

How your eyes filled with tears,

And I remember your answer,

How you erased all my fears.

But this Christmas is different,

The date is today,

Your gown a blinding white,

What a picture you portray!

I'll never love another,

No matter what the times may change,

This rose a symbol of that love,

This kiss the last we shall exchange.

I can't believe that you are gone,

I'll miss you more each day,

But listen close to these words i speak,

They are the last to you I say:

As they lower you to ground,

Do not fear your end,

In my heart you'll always be,

The best of loves, and my closest friend.

Goodbye, my love,

My darling, my life,

This Christmas came too late for us,

But in my heart, you are my wife.

The beginning of this poem had me all smiling and caught up then the sudden twist just shocked me.
You captured immense emotion in this write.
So sorry for the loss. How heart breaking.

Hugs
Michelle

i agree, a shocking, heart wrenching twist in the middle. a sad poem, but at least the last line offers some hope. i wish you all the good will in the world, my friend,
