The Fever

Contributed by faithfully_a_wallflower on Sunday, 14th December 2008 @ 05:14:04 PM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

Lying on the floor broken, with sweat dripping from my brow
I'm an apparition of myself and tired of waiting and wallflowers now
Rocketing from here to there in a haze of absentmindedness as if on an addict's high
Collapsing to the ground, I'm finally broken down, as those words become a sweet lullaby
Stepping back into myself, I must sort out love's hangover and fight to sweat it out
The war is raging on as the ghost of me is banging at my head, and dying to fill me with doubt
As quick as I was here, now I'm gone, and he's out walking in my shoes
He's playing me for a fool, now just like that, he's lost everything I had left to lose
Picking up the guitar, I pluck at the strings lightly, but can't seem to find the right note
Letting him reach my conscious now, I watch him steal away every precious song I wrote
What will I do now that my way out is broken and powerlessness has passed me by
The fever of the year has left me trapped in the madness of a lyrical lie
Wake up, wake up I scream to myself like a nightmare could actually be this bad
She disappears from the picture I cling to on my mantle as he continues to steal the life I had
My sad eyes fill up the room with drops of reason and regret so I'm drowning in my vanity
This apparition of myself has stabbed me in the back, so this is what it feels like to bleed me
Overcome with guilt for the way I waited around for someone to come and save my life
I desperately reach around one time on my own and pull out the knife
Sweating even harder now, I toss the blade aside because I have no use for it anymore
Coming a bit back down to earth, I see the words "I love you" written in blood on the floor
