As December approaches people appear
To lose all sense of normality.
The usual chaos seems to descend
And people in general go around the bend
Shops are full of beautiful things
Books toys clothes jewelry and rings
Mothers clasp lists of what to buy
As they endeavor to please and find .Oh why oh why?
That cd for son a doll for her
Aftershave perfume oh what will they prefer?
What does it mean to all these folk
As they shop and shop 'till their broke
I'm not a scrooge and you'll not hear me say "bah humbug"
But when people moan get stressed and give a shrug.
It makes you think makes you wonder
What are we teaching to our kin
As they stare in wonder at all those things
Is it to love and be kind
Or is it what can I get what can be mine.?
I wonder what its all about ,makes you think
How far we,ve gone how far can we sink
When teaching our kin to love and be kind
Is so far from our thoughts at the back of our mind.

Right on time with this...
I was absolutely horrified by the savagery of some of the incidents on "Black Friday"...
It always seems that the Season of Brotherly Love exacerbates the worst in us.... (yes, I've painted with a broad brush)
Indeed, we need to turn inward and not look to what we need or think that we need, but how we can love ourselves, our family and each other.
Great lesson you've given....
Stirring as well motivating...

this is spot on. christmas now just means 'present time' rather than a time for love and peace. consumerism has taken over religion and morals, which is a dreadful shame. great poem though. |
