The House Is On Fire

The House Is On Fire

I woke up in the middle of the night;
'somethin' wasn't right;
The smell of smoke was in the air;
Like it or not there was a fire somewhere;
The house is on fire;
The house is on fire;
You better wake up cause your house is on fire...

I got outta' bed and opened my door;
Was knocked to my knees, so I crawled on the floor;
I pounded on doors...I pounded on the walls;
Their senses were dulled...they couldn't hear my calls;
The house is on fire;
The house is on fire;
You better wake up cause your house is on fire...

I didn't know what to do;
Death was approaching and no one had a clue;
They could not hear, so they could not know;
They were quietly smothering in their status quo;
The house is on fire;
The house is on fire;
You better wake up cause your house is on fire...

I could hear the flames...I could feel the heat;
I was chokin' on the smoke, but I continued to beat;
If just one soul would open their eyes,
Perhaps with two they'd hear our cries;
The house is on fire;
The house is on fire;
You better wake up cause your house is on fire...

It was hopeless...I could not deny;
I was weak with the urge to lay down and die;
I could cut and run...I could escape alone,
But how do you live without a house or a home;
The house is on fire;
The house is on fire;
You better wake up cause your house is on fire...

Now it's all silent, lifeless and black;
Nothin' left but the chimney stack;
No more hopes; no more dreams;
No more rivers; no more streams;
No more music; no more art;
No more joy; not one beating heart;
No more mountains; no more trees;
No more little honey bees;
No more birds; no more flowers;
No more seconds, minutes or hours;
No more ploughshares; not one cooing dove;
Guess we finally found peace, but there's no more Love;
The house is gone;
The house is gone;
Nobody woke up and now the house is gone;
The house burned down;
The house burned down;
You wouldn't wake up and now your house
is burned down to the ground;
Your house is gone;
My house is gone;
Our house is gone;
You didn't wake up an now you and your house
are gone.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
