Can a mother speak
And her child not know?
I hear what you say
Understanding escapes me
You reach for me,
Yet your embrace is strange
What should be natural is foreign
My mother you could be
And in one sense, are
Yet interloper forbid,
Conception did not take
Your womb did not receive me,
I suckled at a surrogate’s breast
But in my eyes, you are known
Yet not fully
“Reveal all that you should be to me.
Take me away to learn from your heart,
Return what was stolen from me
Yes, from the beginning,
What should have been mine
Sweetly speak your gentle
Strain upon my waiting ear.”

In the latter part of the 19th century the native language of Ireland was all but destroyed. The Gaelic League was established in 1893 and it began a comeback.
Gaelic groups are starting to pop up here in the states and I’m endeavoring to learn….
B' fhe’árr Gaeilge briste na Beurla cliste. -- (Better broken Gaelic than polished English)
