A Hill on the Edge of the Night

Contributed by Rakerman1999 on Saturday, 1st November 2008 @ 08:12:46 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I stood on a hill at the edge of the night
With half in the darkness and half in the light
The world of the shadows, the world of the sun
And me in the middle belonging to none

Across a great distance I saw with my eyes
An ocean of men calling out battle cries
Half loyal to darkness, half loyal to light
And I'm on a hill at the edge of the night

With faces of demons, e'er closer they came
While cursing and killing, they're calling my name
And I am not worthy nor willing to fight
I'm just on a hill at the edge of the night

So cruel and sadistic the war that is waged
The hatred and anger cannot be assuaged
And I must discern who is wrong and who's right
A man on a hill at the edge of the night

Death by the sword or the tip of a lance
Can be preordained or just happen by chance
But neither is worse than my pitiful plight
I'm stuck on a hill at the edge of the night

This is a pretty good piece. There's a nice rhythm to it and the words are well chosen too. Good job.

Great poem as well as terrific poetry, Larry. That internal battle rages on with the self curiously aloof and procrastinating until the lines draw near. I'll throw in my cudgel with the forces of light, just to help tip you over the edge.

what a relief to be swept up by real poetry, as the new day dawns here in the SH.
