~DON'T YOU DARE!~

Contributed by Jenni_K on Sunday, 26th October 2008 @ 09:04:51 PM in AEST
Topic: schoolproblems

~~^~~

Have you ever wished that God had given you more than two arms
So you could hug each of the screaming infants during a storm…
when the lightning and thunder get too much to bear?
Have you ever wanted to go home with some of the children you teach
Just so you could tuck them in at night
because their own parents aren’t there or are just too busy to do it.

Have you ever had to give up your lunch
Just so that Joey would not go hungry that day?
Have you spent your own earnings
so that Billy and Jane may attend an event that they couldn’t afford,
but one which you knew they’d enjoy or would benefit them?

Have you ever felt afraid when Ricky’s mother stormed into the school
and accused you of grabbing him by the collar
And cutting him on the neck with your fingernails…
Then you breathe a sigh of relief when he admitted that he was ‘playing’ with Tony
and was struck and cut with a pair of scissors..

Have you ever cried inside after seeing little Suzy come to school
all black and blue?
Knowing there’s nothing you can do.
Or when Cindy told you that her dad touches her ‘there’
And her mummy accuses her of telling lies…

Haven’t you ever felt like kicking butt
When Tommy and Joe say their uncle abuses them,
And the worst feeling is knowing that these kids
Will be the next generation of abusers…
Yet you know that you yourself will be abused
By the parents if you intervene.

If by now you aren’t convinced, I guess you never will.

But don’t you DARE sit there and tell me
that a Teacher’s job is no more stressful than another person’s job.
Don’t you dare tell me that we took on a job for which we were not equipped.
Don’t you dare tell me that we don’t need better conditions or more compensation.
Don’t you dare….
Not until you have spent ONE day in my shoes!!

~~^~~

Jenni~
Never thought a teacher had it easy. But wow, guess I never totally looked at it either! Thank you for giving me this window into this heart of a teacher! You got me crying, honey! But this is good. Jenni, you are a beautiful soul. We both knew this. But this is a great portrait of it. I don't think you meant it to be. But that's what it became...
Love you so much....
Love Smiles Blessings to you and yours always
Kara

Jenni,

I think that even today the teachers have it far harder than ten years ago! I would never say a thing like that, anyone who does is needing a day with you at school.

That is the way though people like to run their mouth,
never having a clue what it is they are talking about.

I loved this poem and the world needs more teachers who care like you do! Kids would be much better!

Hugs
Michelle

I would like to believe one of the most rewarding jobs would be a teacher. To be able to pass the knowledge of what you have learned through out ones life. And teach I wouldnt ever DARE tell you any different... coz well... I just might have to sit in the corner with my puppy eyes... hehehe
I enjoyed this poem a lot.
An @pple for the Teach and @ for the grade.

teaching/school can be troublesome for both instructors and students, but it's great how you look after these kids! we need more teachers like u. Kids will always be kids in their own wacky and silly behaviors, but they always need grown ups (like u) to take care of them. Just remember ur doing something good for them. this was a very heartfelt and 'somewhat agitated' (at the end) poem, and being a teacher has every right to feel that way. oh and jus curious, is "school and schooling problems" a new topic??...take care

Well, I guess at least I can say I am in the minority.

This is damn intense, Jenni. :-( So sad I am really unable to write anymore at this time.

*huge hug*

Tim

You have to be a sacrificial person in order to be a good teacher. Personally, I think that teachers, professors, researchers and such, are not paid their worth. I think that it is messed up that we pay people millions of dollars to play a child's game, or pretend to be someone they are not or couldn't be on camera, and keep our smartest near poverty. Who truly contributes the most? People such as yourself, that is who... You are ensuring our future and mentoring our greatest treasure, our children.
Thank You Jenni....
Steve

yes you may be right but one bad apple does spoil a bunch not all teachers are caring and looking out for the best interest of students. I loved science because I had a wonderful teacher. She inspired me and we need more teachers that are willing to inspire. Glad to know there are still some who care and I give them much respect.

Jenni,

Some teachers are our greatest resource. I
really feel for what you have to go through.

I used to teach martial arts and there is no
better feeling to see it in a childs face when
they "get it".

Keep up the great work that you do and don't
let the other garbage get you down.

Awesome write..........Mike

Yes Jenni, I was a high school teacher prior to
going into the military and eventually into Law
Enforcement. I had the extreme sad job of actually
arresting several young men I had had in my classes
earlier, and it broke my heart. God knows the hearts
of our teachers, and I believe greater rewards await
in Heaven because of your love and faithfulness
toward God's little ones.
Blessings,
Robert Edgar Burns (AKA: Lawdog)
