I am a father; I am a man. I protect my loved ones.
It’s Midnight, and my son is not home, hasn’t called.
Something is wrong. He’s always called before.
My stomach turns and my heart aches, and I fear.
I drive the streets where he has friends.
I know something is wrong, so I do it methodically.
I criss-cross every street, making sure I don’t miss one.
I tell myself not to panic. But where is he?
Then, I see him. He is stumbling down a street,
helped by a friend who is holding him up.
I pull alongside and get out; I am a father, a man.
I order him to get inside; and I tell his friend,
“if I ever catch you giving my son drugs, again,
I will kill you.” I am a man. I am a father.
I take my son home. I help him inside.
I lay him down on his bed and watch him.
I watch him sleep the whole night, his every breath,
and I pray, because, I am a father, I am a man.
Now, alone, I cry about it, because I am a father.

father to father, you've captured the worry and distress and concern perfectly. I went through this too many times, but he survived, thank goodness.

Allow me to welcome you to YPDC..the best and most caring site on the net...
You have certainly expressed what so many parents/guardians feel as our kids grow up... and you have done it so well... Thank you fo sharing this...

This is a heartbreaking truth for too many fathers, (and mothers as well).
Gut wrenching emotional piece. I hope those nights become fewer and
fewer until they disappear completely. All we can do as parents is hold
them and hope that our example will serve to give them a sense of
responsibility, purpose and self respect. Strength is a must when you
are a parent. For things that are never taught.

First welcome to ypdc!
A fantastic first write.
I loved the I am father I am a man.
Thank goodness your kids have you in their life, many are not so lucky.
From a womans perspective the worry when the kids are not home is enormous. This is the worst nightmare indeed.
I went through it several occasions.

| That is a hard battle to fight and win and though I sympathize with you I know u alone cannot help him it will take a higher power. When alone pray, pray and have faith, believe and I will promise change |
