Not As I Do
You may act up, but this will pass
With a strategically placed slap on that little (xxx)
And when you’ve thrown your dish and cup
Could just be time for another tune-up
There are some rules that you must follow
And those lima beans you’re gonna swallow
You know the drill and how I’ve said
About children in this world not fed
So button that lip and stop rolling your eyes
You’d better give them beans another try
Oh, and speak to me nice, you don’t want to be rude
For I’ve been known to adjust an attitude
But if you’d rather do that dance
Just keep it up, and you’ll get your chance
For all I want to relate to you
Is do as I say, and not as I do

yeah, good one - took me back to those cold meals and long waits at the kitchen table, and the smacks, wacks and blows to help the cold broccili go down that much easier.
I think the paradoxical saying has its truth - most parents try and make their kids better than they see themselves. But still, "tuning up" kids? Those remarks make me shudder, and I for one didn't turn out better for all the blows, sarcasm and cold dinners (got some good poetry out of it, though).
Good poem, ZB.

Ziggy, this was hilarious! And brought back many memories ... lol
Those were some of the most trying AND enjoyable days of my life.
(I'd trade them for some of the teenage moments ANY day! lol)
GREAT post!

Do as I say, and not as I do! I swore I would never say this to my children when I was young...and here I am saying it on a weekly basis. Who would have thought! Love your work keep em' coming. Love Ya and Miss ya! Punky |
