Motherland
I wish i was back home again,
back on my beloved island
her craggy mountains, her emerald fields
where seabirds callout at the breaking of dawn,
when the sun gently lays its kiss upon her face
how i miss all she had to give me
her wine, her women, her songs
we would sing all night until the whiskey ran dry
and our throats were too sore to go on,
but woe is to me for i am far from her
paying for the crime so petty
aboard a prison ship to the colonies
if only one final wish is all i could ask
I would have it be to live and die on her fair green shore
