Topic:
Grief
|
In a blur it seemed to happen,
a room full of boxes,
songs to be sung, an organist to be picked.
At the start a look of shock,
dread,
reality,
Then darkness drew.
Voices hushed were shouting.
That sting of truth, painful, numb, painless.
A refusal of entry, an angy reply.
Strength, not for the good of me,
but for the dog, alone in the back kitchen,
confused as to where it's owner was,
was seen as shock, but i knew different.
Strangers, neighbours, people;
All intruders, none wanted: none refused.
When time came for the grand reveal,
boot laces untied, not by their owner
but by unfamiliar hands, shattered places
newly unknown to the senses.
Then music, hands. More hands.
Warm embraces, coldly received.
But the comfort of the last conference,
the last sight, where words said on my part
found no reply, pressure not returned.
A parting gift I new would be comfort for the ground.
Then the box-gone, followed by three roses,
their thorns embedded still.
For their pain, I am grateful.
I am grateful, they remind me.

This is an excellent depiction of the circumstances of which you write. This poem made me relive the death of both my parents...
I am sorry for your loss and I hope it gets easier for you.... Keep him alive in your heart.
On another note, let me welcome you to YPDC, the best poetry site on the web... Hope to see more of your work..
