Falling hundreds of feet below the ground.
Into the endless ocean calling me.
Swallowing me whole.
Taking me faster further all hope fleeting down.
I hit the floor with such a speed shaking as I stood.
A man sat perched on rock staring into me.
Not one to make eye contact I look at the floor.
Silence being prominent for many a minute till he spoke.
Speaking with deep rooted pride and wisdom.
"Son take care of this earth, she can’t take much more."
My shoulders taking the immense pressure of the sea unable to look up.
"The concrete cancer taking away our trees, our life".
With this new found knowledge leaving his lips.
Taking a moment to stir a motion around him.
Sending me rocketing up to the surface.
Staring around at my new surroundings.
The devilish infectious fake palm trees.
Endless tarmac in sight.
Nature is a thing of the past.
But the burden is heavy and soon gone.
Thumping beat of a thousand souls wandering the earth.
A pulse of wearing the stone to dust.
Dust to air.
And air into the grave.
For it is only when we lie on our beds,
Pondering our very existence, do we reach the closest state to God.
Death the only thing we can bet on.
But what awaits us on the other side, if anything has the patience to wait.
Reaching our hands to the sky as we salute the spirits of our ancestors.
For we as humans have a need to remember and honour.
Our very essence of existence to keep a mind on the past.
But will our children and our children's children do the same.
Or will the look back at us with a sense of eternal embedded shame.
Time is almost over, no more time for excuses.

there is a true senses of power to this piece, it was truly emblematic of the earths state, there was so many things in this i liked, at the start i was like meh, but after a few lines i was like GEHHH!! this is stunning, you have blown open humanities mistakes in a philosophical and very interesting write, you have knowledge beyond your years and you seem a very wise young man(im only 19 lol, im talking like a granddad)
i really contemplated the world while reading this, i really did, and im glad you do that to lol.
i the final verse really struck me, it was so condemning and powerful, almost a wake up call, the thought of our children looking back on us in shame is not a nice thought at all my friend, and you really show us this through short and sweet wording, fabulous write my friend!!
keep it up!! |
