DECEITFUL THOUGHTS

Contributed by Lionel on Saturday, 18th October 2008 @ 06:38:11 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I saw her there,
A striking beauty,
My mind fell to sin.
I must not dare,
I know my duty,
Heaven's gate to win.

I must strive,
Against the flesh,
Turn myself away.
To keep alive,
Renew afresh,
My spirit every day.

To live for him,
Who died for me,
Bless his Holy name.
Though sometimes dim,
I am to see;
Adrift in utter shame.

Oh, woe is me,
Of little worth,
Easily beset by sin.
How can I be,
So short of faith,
For grace to enter in?

So many times,
My mind does drift,
In places it should not.
In realms of crime,
A loveless shift,
As passion seizes hot.

I see things so,
I think it good,
Then, it turns to grief.
It lays me low,
Just as it should;
Days without relief.

I pray to God,
Don't let my thought,
Bring me sin today.
Do use your rod,
Just as you should,
But, wash my sin away.
*****************
Jere. 17:9 "The heart is
deceitful above all things
and desperately wicked:
who can know it?

You always write with such excellent meter.
Flowing work here.

I see many things in my travels, some good, some sad, some happy, and everything in between.
Something I have noticed is the lack of love between people these days.

None of us are free from sin, that is part of our journey. You my friend I think is an awesome person.

I also love the reference at the end.......

Hugs
Michelle

Oh Lionel this poem hits the nail on the head. How deceitful the heart can often be if it is not anchored in God.
thoughts sneak in of a destructive nature and held for good. and profitable Deceipt. !
Great poem. !

Blessings!
Elizabeth

It's sad that if sins are truly sins, and are deemed so by a true Higher power who governs our actions, that it's made purposely (assuming so since the word perfect is used, and mistakes don't sound perfect)so that we're susceptible to them. Even sadder is it, that if one is ignorant of the truth, about their committing of a sin, that it can be forgiven, for they had no knowledge of committing one, but we can't force ourselves, and those we love to be ignorant of the sins for that reason.

This sounds like a crushing way to "live", if you could call it that. I hear you on trying to live right, and be the best you that you can be...But I think for the most part, if we aren't hurting anyone or commiting a major crime, we should cut ourselves some slack. Life is for living, and a constant fear of a misstep is no life at all. We learn from our mistakes; do not be afraid to make them.

Cheers.
