friend or foe

Topic: toughstuff

He stood before the parole board A man who'd once been wild,In a form too small for a mean man with a leathered look too old for a child, A look so worn and pathetic was stamped on his tired old face, It seemed long years of suffering must have left that silent trace, The chairman's face was a study the strangest you ever saw, as he cleared his throat and mumbled some thing about the law, Why should we consider to grant you this parole? how do we know that you are a changed man with a clean heart and soul? WELL SIR a prisoner knows when he finds he's held by the cold strong bars that prisons weld,The cold steel doors and the gray stone walls, The smelly old cells and the concrete halls,All out around the delta each gun tower has a crier, Ten feet of chain link fence laced with razor wire.It glo's like icecycles on a christmas tree ,But we all know that Santa Clause doesn't come to the penitentiary, I have heard the finest music, And read the rarest books , I have drank the homemade whiskey ,And lived with many crooks, I have traveled down the road of life, Being put to many a test, Now Sir I'm tired of all the heartache,And simply want to rest ,The good LORD has never slighted me any HE put up with a lot from me,So it's time for me to change my ways for all the world to see, The hurtful pains I caused the sleepless nights of woe, I pray no other person on earth turns out to be my foe.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
