A COFFIN FOR THE PRESIDENT

Contributed by BabaOlutunde on Thursday, 2nd October 2008 @ 04:17:45 AM in AEST
Topic: war

I have a coffin for the President
Ready to be placed at the front door
Of the White House
As a token from the dying and poor
To let the President know
That we are angry and refuse to furthermore
Let him get away with denying our human rights
Nor continuously trying to keep us victims of war
While he lives in luxury
Keeping the rich more richer
And the poor more stricken and poor.
My people are dying
Many died for this land with their bloodsweat and tears
I will no longer be stuck in that cycle for any more years

That’s why I have a coffin for the President

Mr. President, you sent my father to war and he died
You sent my little brother and he died
You sent one of my sisters and she died
You sent three of my closet friends and they died
All of them have died for your cause because you lied
And said that they would get a piece of the pie
But before they could get a piece they died
You sent them to kill for oil
You sent them over there to kill for land
You sent them believing that they had to take out the head
Then cut off the right hand
But instead their blood was your libation on foreign land
And for that, I have become the voice of the voiceless
Exposing your artificial religion and unethical boundaries
Feeling like I want to do to you what you have done to other families

That why I have a coffin for the President

We will no longer cry, cry, cry
And keep asking you why, why, why
When we already know that you’re going to lie, lie, lie

That why I have a coffin for the President

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
