With every devastating blow
my hands gain experience.
The shovel once blistered
now scrapes callused skin.
No sensitivity to warmth.
No perception of pain.
Layers upon layers of
defenses keep them numb.
Past the point of blistered fingers,
dead to sense of feeling.
Another devastating blow
my heart gains experience...

Omigod! The metaphor in this is astounding!! Yes, callused and
grown hard over time is something we all face when broken from
the life and times of our struggles (and heart involving moments).
Your short rendition offers amazing insight into the pain and price
of experience. Well done, poet!

This metaphor is captivating. To compare tha callused hands to the heart. Yes, it is our heart that we work the most, and the perfect heart is perfectly callused. Devistating blows do gain the heart experience and unfortunately harden the beauty of the heart's initial innocence. But in time it is what comes from the callused heart, that makes us love deeper. When work and effort comes in order to force the heart to feel beyond the callused flesh we find how beautiful our souls can be.
I am thrilled with your work here. You are increasingly becoming among the better poets here. With each write I grow more excited for your next. I am a fan.
SUPERB!
