To A Soldier

Contributed by desolantdreamer on Saturday, 27th September 2008 @ 06:25:54 AM in AEST
Topic: ThankYouPoems

Is it possible for someone to affect someone so greatly
With just words written in a moment of emotion
Can it be that someone far away in such times of toil
Will appreciate your work so much, feel such joy from reading it
I can barely understand, barely believe how many people read my work
How many love it, how many it touches
Surely there are others that are much more deserving of this attention
More talented writers, more deep poems
But when that soldier wrote to me
To share his love of my work and tell me how it transports him away
Just for a moment, but a moment well spent
It just brought tears to my eyes, and gave me reason to keep writing
I can't let him down, he asked me to continue writing
He needs the escape from war, from pain
I feel so amazed, so shocked
To know I impact someone so much
So forever I will cherish him, the one soldier that made me realize
Anyone can be touched by you, in any way and in any place
So I'll keep writing and keep hoping
And maybe I'll impact more lives, and bring happiness to more people

As a soldier myself, when we are deployed to combat zones, poetry helps us cope. This is a wonderful write, well done.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
