A silver glow
cast lightly over her head.
Abigail sat, her room lit only
by candles.
An offering,
To the Goddess.
Her hands worked quickly
I hope he doesn’t come home,
She finished her knot work.
Cinnamon, dragon’s blood,
white candle wax and oil
she smeared this on the rope.
Hinges, creaking wood.
Pounding boots up the stairs.
She moved quickly.
Blew out the candles,
Hid the herbs.
Uncast the circle.
William stood,
frozen, mid stride.
Eyes wide and eyebrows slanted.
“It’s not what you think!”
“Witch,” he hissed.
“I never thought…”
