I like how it’s always about you.
Whether it’s something I say or something I do,
there is a good chance you will not approve.
How is that fantasy world that you live in?
I guess it has suited you well so far.
I am not perfect nor have I ever claimed to be,
but you find my weaknesses and exploit them to the best of your ability.
All I wanted to do was love you,
and treat you the way a loved man should be treated,
but you shut me out,
and made me see the reality of what I was up against.
I tried so hard to make this work,
but your pride is not something that I am prepared to fight.
It has never mattered who was wrong or right,
it has simply been your way or the highway,
and now it seems we are at the end of our road.
Regret is not a feeling I will allow,
so somehow I must find the beauty of our story,
try to deal with it in its lack of glory,
and make the best of this lesson learned,
love is not a given; it must be earned.
