The smell is all wrong,
that's all I could think,
and you are my strongest memory.
Someone lied
was my next thought
and disappointment rushed in.
I thought I was close this time,
thought it was the moment
to clear the air
and let the dust settle.
But here, layers of dust coat every surface
and I realize I must be too late.
A couple of big fat tears filled with hope
escape my eyes
to keep me company
in this empty room,
filled with dust,
where the smell is all wrong.

I can't say why exactly, but this dove right into my soul.
I cannot even put the emotion into words. All I know is
it trips the heart in the most desperate way.
The line repeated about the smell being all wrong is
devastatingly powerful!
