Seen you today,
First time in months.
Your face opened up so many old wounds,
Brought back those memories I’d been hiding for some other day.
Never really prepared myself for it;
It came much too quickly.
Those blue eyes,
Those ones that always seemed to catch everything.
I wasn’t ready to see those again.
I wasn’t ready to remember all the lies,
To remember all the acting.
My heart nearly stopped;
My face turned pitch red.
I suddenly remembered every time I ever bled
For only you.
Every time I felt like I was dead inside,
Every time I wanted to commit suicide.
Because of you.
I wonder what you saw when you looked at me.
Was I same the same girl you always could see?
Or was I someone totally different now?
Did that leave you wondering why, or how?
My friend is always talking to you.
I just smile and pretend it doesn’t hurt every time she says your name.
I nod, tracing over every scar I ever left for you.
The role I play is very difficult.
I can’t let anyone see how damaged I still am,
How much I still hurt because of that one boy.

reflecting on past relationships can be painful ... but the pain can make future endeavors more enjoyable...
