Hyde & Seek

It can be in my quietude
the daily tasks we all embrace,
a rippling of the waters, still
a tremble in my interlude.
by candlelight or lantern street
in company or solitude,
through beaded sweat of urgency
I sense the elements intrude…
He’s here again—
the One within—
the beast who drinks of darkest sin
homunculus or demon spawn,
claims the hearth to be reborn.
convulsing foetus-like in pain
on stone colder than the grave,
I mouth the cry of life again
more howl than any wolf enraged…
So I bid a brief farewell
amidst the darkening of the lights,
to slip beneath the primal swell
of lust and murderous appetites.
to rise anew in form and sense
and clothe myself in human guise,
to make the night my hunting ground
and claim sweet innocence as prize...

Okay Monsieur spikers, what an intriguing write. We do fall into darkness at times
do we not? I love the metaphor you chose! WICKED! *winks*
Gosh, I would SO love to blame my evil twin for all the darkness I embrace sometimes.
Of course there are many things that enrage us, frustrate us, annoy us, etc. etc.
etc. And how convenient to have a "Hyde" to lay all the blame on. Thing is, personal
struggle is never easy. And there is an ENORMOUS amount of stress associated with
doing "the right thing". It is enough to drive one completely mad!
Excellent work here, my poet friend. I do so love it when you write from the
darker side of Spike. He is deliciously entertaining.
Exceptional, as always dear poet!

We rise in unison from our desks with a thunderous applause!
You are indeed a poet after our own hearts. At least with this write. We clench our fists and pump them in the air. We are extremely excited to have read something dark, brilliant and metaphorical this night. This delivers a black potency, a profound understanding of wordplay and makes for perfect dark social commentary. For it is our Hyde and our Jekyll that the world will judge us upon. Sometimes we need the Jekyll to consume our Hyde in order to find acceptance. And sometimes we need our Hyde to consume our Jekyll to understand the better nature of ourselves, because we need to experience the harsh to understand the gentle. Sometimes the gentle is vulnerable and we need the harsh to protect our better nature. But it is indeed the gentle which makes us worthy of any dispute.
This was immaculate and a wonderful exploration of self reflection. You must be careful for we Ghost Alarms tend to befriend those who know how to make powerful statements with dark metaphors! This path could lead to something disturbing for you.
May the ghost of Robert Louis Stevenson haunt you tonight via our solicitation to deliver you this message from us. "If you be Mr. Hyde, we shall be Misters Seek."

Spike,
You sir have just posted a fine masterpiece! I am in total agreement with all that is being said about this poem. The way you have exceptionally bound this idea to these words and this display is brilliant! I am not the biggest fan of modern dark poetry (nothing personal ghostalarms). Though I have myself attempted it once or twice but sometimes a write comes along that cannot be ignored. Not that I am actually ignoring anyone's work.
This is a fine piece of writing and a true testament to who you are as a poet. Among the best of your work that I have read. Captivating! Significantly Brilliant!
EXCEPTIONAL!

Ahh Like two sides of a coin, one cannot exist without the other.
The dark side has its advantages, ambition, drive, boldness even survival.
I like this portrayal.
