>>>The Peace Tree<<<
All the pain...
From those around me,
Travels through the ground,
Travels to the tips of my roots, as they suck it all up
And fill me with excruciation.
So many sad emotions
So much hate.
Blood from human lives
Mixing with the futile earth
Then, trodden upon
Moulding it all together.
Fire, Singeing my leaves
Causing them to shrivel away in pain.
I watch as my brother burns to the ground
Numbness begins to take over
Yet the fighting never stops.
The men keep falling around me
But more keep coming
Replacing those who lost at life,
Day after day
Stagnant pools of dying life
Dot this tree starved land
They cover a rough and dry terrain
Like the palm of a calloused hand
Until the heavens open
And the tears begin to fall
I am left standing here
The men come no more
No more lives lost
As it all starts to change
Soon, I’m by myself
Alone but no longer scared
Everything is still
No wind moves my blackened leaves
No sound ruins this peaceful moment
I don’t move
I hardly breathe
The silence,
It is so perfect
Such a change from the chaos before it.
Where did it all go?
Where are my brothers?
My Mother?
My Father?
I look down
I see my families branches,
Strewn all around me.
Their leaves have fallen like a carpet,
Covering the wounded earth
Becoming one with it.
Their souls seeping into my roots
Filling me once again with hope,
Hope for a better tomorrow.
The Lone Tree
The one that survived through the hate
The one that held on
The Peace Tree
For now,
I am alone
But the flowers have stopped cowering away
I can feel them stretching again
Feeling for the light
Opening themselves up again
Willing to be pretty again
For the people who come to me,
Who come together to cry,
To sing,
To hope.
Willing and ready…
To live again.

This is dark, but also inspirational ... and I liked the way you wrote as being the tree yourself. ... Jan |

your imagery is beautiful... what a precious outlook on the "calm after the storm", so to speak... this is an extremely powerful poem... filled with more emothion and passion than war itself... kudos to you... blessings... |
