I pulled her close to steal my "last kiss" from ravishing lips. Stockholm Syndrome set in quick as she sided with her captor, joining me. The one she fought so hard against, and at times, so hard to protect, in a kiss. The following heart beat pounded my finger tips as the air turned thick. It became, once again, so hard to breathe, hard to speak, and hard to see. Embarrassed maybe, she pushed me away, but I could see that spark within her gaze. The one that precedes the burning flame. Without warning, watery eyes doused the ember before it could ignite. She turned and walked away, so strong, she continues to fight.

No this is not poetry. Though fans of Rimbaud might argue that based on formatting alone. Yet even his works which share this formatting are considered more prose than poetry.
Though I think you actually call it right as a very short story.
That being said for what it was this works. It grabs my attention and it works me in. The conclusion was fabulous. Yet, though I fear like sounding a jerk here YPDC has a short story section that way those who want to read short stories can go there and not run across one in attempt to read poetry.
Bravo!
