Autumn in New England, With Dreams of Spring

Contributed by wizard on Wednesday, 3rd September 2008 @ 10:37:11 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

A piddling trot with summer in forgotten slumber,
Tree tops dance to their muffled falling symphony;
Critters hoard as fleeing birds eagerly bid adieu.

Pines fritter spent needles and cones, flippantly.
Apple blossoms swag swaying limbs; seethed cider cools,
Pumpkins rouse dreaded scowls with candlelit smiles.

Rustling leaves rage, both overhead and underfoot,
With each crushing step a past fades; rampantly quick,
Yet ahead a smiling future awaits; promising.

A granite seat lends a resting ledge for a scribbled thought
As the ensuing frost upon us quietly waits, sneering,
Waiting to cover the cover left by the sleeping woods.

Sprouting dreams of fiddleheads in tender bloom,
Aside thoughts of the soft protracted days ahead;
Zephyrs fly passed a sun kissed pad … calling another line.

Naked limbs await the birds’ vernal tune – patience.
Thank not these birds for song, nor the sun for shine;
Chase not the butterfly’s unseen sweetened flutter,
For soon this dire season will end, frost will vacate,
Dying limbs will awaken, birds will rebuild and
Spring will again be at hand…warming, birthing .

Yep, as I suspected, number 17.

Absolutely perfect. I hate that by overusing adjectives like "incredible," people have rendered them mediocre, when this is in fact an incredible piece of art.

Each word is delicious. Even if I didn't know previously what these scenes looked like, I would after reading this, through your eyes anyway.

Beautifully done.

Jesse

Amen, brother. bring on the sneezes - I'm sick of colds and flus and freezing winds.

Beautiful word-embroidery of the seasons.
