Greed

Contributed by ammar on Tuesday, 2nd September 2008 @ 11:02:22 PM in AEST
Topic: political

The rivalry for power and status, its greed,
The desire for excessive wealth, most certainly lead
To a disregard of one’s conscience, indeed
And to crime, enmity and several misdeeds;
The morals of the society become lost and forgotten
So results corruption and a society so rotten

The empires once prosperous, in esteem held high
Did eventually collapse in the days gone by
The apparent reasons for their ruin are easy to classify
But this should not be forgotten, as history would testify:
They became hungry for power and pleasure-loving
So a lasting decline is what greed was to bring

I agree with navydocny.
It most certainly does have a powerful message.
I agree with you, ammar, on this one; the world is full of greed and will eventually lead to our downfall if we keep it up.
Good poem, ammar! Keep up the good work!

'Greed' goes beyond mere poetry. It is something that must be said. Something that is more than true. But something spoken about -- only by the few who care enough to put their hearts and souls and hands and pens and papers -- into exposing this monstrous Crisis of Crises: the terrible greed that infects all the peoples of our poor planet.

Important. This poem is important.
