Getting over it (self-hatred)

Contributed by PrincessPage on Tuesday, 18th March 2003 @ 10:25:00 AM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

I look back on the past and what do I see?
Failure, discontentment and insecurity
And then I drown in this melancholy
Of lovesick rejections and the fact I’m me
But why should I care?
Why should I dare?
To dredge up things which hold me back
To focus on the qualities, which I think, I lack
The past is the past, which I cannot change
So it will be my future that I rearrange
So obsessed with opinions of how I used to be
I failed to realise that they do not see me
They see themselves and all of there woes
And then go home at night and write their own prose
But never think of that girl they oppressed
Who slit her wrists and became depressed
I’m angry with myself, for having no sight
For letting someone hurt me and not be willing to fight
But those days are gone now, so listen clearly
These words I say I hold quite dearly
I’m unique, my flaws make me who I am
So say what you want, I don’t give a damn
I can see who I am, reflected in my family and friends
My work, my passion, my love, which never ends
My laughter, my smile, there’s nothing I wouldn’t do
To help you see the goodness, to help you see it through
Scars which wont fade will be a reminder
But to my adorable self, I am so much kinder
And so lets draw the curtains on the melancholy eve
And cast away the perceptions I refuse to perceive
I am not alone, every feels so much pain
But that is behind me now and hopefulness reigns
You may not understand now, but you will someday
Things get so much more transcendent, so lets not delay
Maybe I’m sometimes afraid of this I will admit
But this is my world you see and I know I deserve it

Fantastic poem. Just a small thing - it may be better if you could break it down into smaller paragraphs as this looks like a lot to read and, although it is psychological, it puts people off reading. Your work is fantastic and it would be a shame for it not to be read becuase people can't be bothered.

Just an idea
