this is for your sober self
the one who sets me on this shelf
every time the creature calls
for feed to grip within its claws
call on me to help you through
the creature's hunger within you
even though your sober self
sets me on this lonely shelf
if your ever feeling down
when no one is around
i'll always be there
for your drunken self

You had me until the last two lines, when the rhyme scheme all but
disappeared. Otherwise, this was quite a profound write. I love the
metaphor you've used. Demon, creature.... they haunt us do they not?
