Fading Ember

We think of ourselves at times
as the forever flame, always burning.
A spark that will be as it is right this moment.
Then at once in an instance of judgement.
at times bad judgement on a rainy day.
Life changes in that second, embers die, fade away.
One glance and that moment sticks with you.
Burned in your brain, not instantly fading in your memory.
The big truck rolls, the rain comes down,
miles left behind us, miles left in front.
That one second stays with some, stayed with us.
Disrupting thoughts, reality vague and clearly mapped.
Hard not to have ones heart a bit tender, we did not know them.
Someone did, someone loved them, the fire, now the ember that died.

Shel, you captured the universal reaction from your specific circumstance. A compelling, 'makes you think' read.
The forever flame was a nice touch.

That must have been a very sobering sight, one that I think many people have every day. If you can take away from it what you did, well that's appreciating life. Well written and softly emotive.

Unbelievably sad, Michelle. What a hopelessly melancholy and
desperate write. It's impossible not to feel a connection when witness
to such sadness. And you've done a fine job of sharing the emotion
with us. Take care, hun.
*hugs*
