One Night

I am looking at her, focusing on every word. The way her lips move, body expressions, even the way she uses the word. Details of her life are burned into my brain like film being exposed to the light. I can’t move, nor do I want to. Her voice puts me into a trance, like a ship in the heart of a storm, I am at her mercy.

The room is too dark to see the color of her eyes. Green, hazel, it doesn’t matter. I spend all night looking into them. I look deeper into her eyes searching for a key to unlock a mystery, a mystery that could change my life. Her eyes give away nothing; they only serve to instill more questions.

I want more from her but I don’t need it. Just her presence, her smile, and the life that flows through her, gives me the feeling I lost a long time ago. She looks right at me, she talks right to me. There is no discomfort; she is an angel without wings sitting right before my widened eyes of disbelief. No other woman has ever made me feel this way.

We pause to look at the time…. one in the morning. Where did the time go? I ask so that someone will answer me and I can find a way to relive this night all over again.

We talk about the next time we will see each other. She mentions days but those days sound like an eternity. I wish I could bottle the feeling that courses through my veins at this very moment. I know she is going to walk through that door and I fear this feeling will leave with her. I want to do something or say something to take her breath away, anything to make her stay. But somehow it just doesn’t feel like the right time.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
