One I Once Knew

For as many seasons
As have passed,
Still my heart yearns
For what it has missed.
It longs for a soft touch,
And gentle, passionate kiss,
Such as the one I once knew.
And where could one find such solace,
After these years passed by?
Only in the arms
Of one I once knew.
Only in the arms
For which a roaring flame has burned,
Never ceasing, faltering,
Only growing,
Once only a spark of light,
Of life, as in a little boy's eye,
As he finds his first love,
Erupting into an untameable wildfire,
Burning between two hearts.
And for all these years,
It has grown,
And is growing still,
For now again I have found
The one I once knew.
But what of her feelings,
Has the wildfire died?
I must ask her,
I must know,
For in her arms only,
Can I find solace.
In her eyes only,
Can I find comfort.
And if her fire has died,
What then?
Mine cannot be extinguished,
For she is the one
I once knew.
