Born Again

Contributed by xnoybis on Sunday, 10th August 2008 @ 08:42:59 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

So you got born again
Cleansed and washed
Of all your sins

And now you're beaming
Like you're already wearing the halo
And we're all supposed to forget
The bad things in your past, but oh

You've gone and turned your
Self doubt with a one eighty
And in your new found position
Of up on high, where
You feel quite stately

You feel free enough to cleanse
What is wrong with everybody
With the wave of a hand
Not unlike the hand you feel enabled you

Because you've been born again

He could have touched us all
But he chose you
And you feel so special
That you've been shown the sacred Truth
That anyone unlike you
is too ignorant to see

You're the seer

Because you were made so smart
When his invisible hand came down
And chose you as its Earthly vessel
Despite all the things you've torn apart

Because you've been born again

And that's the only excuse
That I can see
For your infantile discourse
Is that you've been
Born again.

So I don't know the situation here but the way I read it is I am imagining someone who really wronged people - selfish, self-centered, awful type of person, and all of a sudden they were like "Oh I found Jesus! Jesus touched me! Oh Jesus!" And whether this spiritual conviction is true or not they have forgotten all the wrong doings they did and just left all the garbage of their past to rot without cleaning it up. Some people it seems to me really cling to some religious conviction and have none at all, and others are/can be obviously genuine... so I hope whoever this is cleans up their garbage! that's the way I read into it. I felt the tone was you were disgusted with this person and I could feel that emotion coming off of it, and the structure of the poem was easy on the eyes and kept the reader reading. Thanks for posting (whether my take on the piece was the way you intended or not, I enjoyed it!)
