In the Eye of the Beholder

Contributed by karoody on Monday, 17th March 2003 @ 10:45:00 PM in AEST
Topic: PoemsonBeauty

As the plane descends over San Fransisco,

I smile at the glittering lights-

Painting pictures for the night sky...

My mind contradicts itself

For the beauty I see is something I despise-

Replacing nature with these concrete kingdoms.

Yes, mankind has to reside somewhere-

But do we have to be so destructive?

I watch as smog from the factories add color to the paintings

While Mother nature chokes on the fumes...

I feel beauty and anger at the same time-

A conflict within my head,

Is this beauty, or another trick of deception?

I agree totally. I once started writing a poem along the same lines but never completed it. Maybe I will one day. A wonderful poem, full of imagery.

I love nature too. We just keep chipping away at it. Too bad. Great poem!
