I can no longer face the travesties of this modern age. I am wounded much too easily to stand before the many injustices that are so prevalent in this world. I cannot face the darkness that consumes me, nor can I withstand the empty promises of light that stagger drunkenly beneath me in the black, stone sky, misleading our endeavors, persuading all to disregard the sorrow that conceals the distant stars.
I grow weary of the consequence of sleep, and I no longer contemplate my own death, for I am dead inside, I am a single candle simmered down, a hollow past reflected on the inner chambers of an insistent sky.
Long, I have held steady, to lead with light forever, those astray, yet night after night I saw those adrift, and they did not look towards me, and they did not come to know me or to know the courage they could find in me, but walked on and continued on their way.
How many stand before me and do not look upon me?
