Rise of the Oak

Contributed by calebcrain on Thursday, 31st July 2008 @ 02:36:47 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

Pallid seed with much potential
time will colour you well
seasons change and your head will show
sprouting of new green leaves

you'll see the sky, you'll see the sun
soak the wonder, like everyone
from you vantage in the forest

sapling swayed by changing winds
your roots will serve you well
gather your nutrients quick
time passes, worlds don't wait

you'll see the blood, you'll see the gun
watching in pain, as the deer runs
from your vantage in the forest

soft impressionable bark
will harden as days pass
take your days to heart my friend
and rise o' mighty oak

you'll see the sky, you'll see the sun
soak the wonder ,with everyone.

Oh, I just love this. It is such a terrific write about something taken so for granted these days. Smells of Thoreau, my personal favorite.

I envy the years an oak has - but it must heighten the futility of our short existances as seen from the oaks perspective. You know , I'm not always sure that semi permanent structures such as trees are as passive observer as we imagine.
