A barren wasteland touched by drought
Fed from the heavens, godlike no doubt
The snow falls deep covering the land
Once so dry covered with sand
A tiny green shoot hopeful with glee
Protrudes from the snow grinning at me
My footsteps are deep crunching the ground
Approaching the shoot my hearts all a pound
How can this shoot suddenly sprout?
Where all before was naught but a drought
Wet to the touch but gleaming with joy
Giddy with pleasure my senses are coy
Plucking the shoot would be incredibly wrong
I look to the sky as a bird makes a song
Telling of woes and of troubles ahead
I look to the ground and the shoot is quite dead
