Place Your Bets

I wake each morning,
The sun pours in its light.
I greet it with a nonchalant smile,
Prepare myself to fight.
Each day is a battle within myself,
To attain the characteristics I desire.
Your words haunt my every thought,
The manipulations I more or less admire.
For I used to be the free spirit,
Wild, running, never to be caught.
A trap I had not seen coming,
One that I could not have fought.
So each day I will continue,
To try to pry the bars out of place.
With every heartbeat I will go on,
Losing my notorious grace.
And if a smile can free a person,
How can it also burn them yet?
How much longer will I be in hiding?
It’s time to place your bets.

This is very nicely written. If I may read into it something that you may not have meant, I would say to be sure the characteristics you are working on within yourself are because you want them there, not someone else. Clearly you are a fighter, you'll figure out what's best for you ;o). |
