Our Cartel

We own this town,
You and me.
We own its every tawdry noun
In cinergy.
I revel
In the strident spirit of business.
I envy this cartel
At later moments when I feel this
I do not deserve.
This friendship
Takes a learning curve,
And I ride an undulating dip.
We convene; we enterprise
In every idea we propound.
Business-wise,
We are founders; we are found.
We roll in the sand of this town,
Me and you.
We wear a filthy crown
For our debut.
From the same office we ship,
Bound at the strong,
Benevolent hip;
We often get along.
But sometimes I nag.
Observe my purpose as a buffer;
I’m your punching bag --
And here to suffer.
Yet I will be loyal
In my plan to exceed;
I will instigate toil
When paper cuts fail to bleed.
Our mighty dyad
Will boast
A successful ad --
And you will play the host
In our premiere:
Young entrepreneurs
Who will, no doubt, veer
To denounced waspy corners.
But how do our stars already fade
Into political strata?
We merely sell lemonade --
Nickels and dimes our data.
