Green Eyes Flecked with Brown

When you posed for a portrait
In the studio high-minded as a cleric
That you challenged, refusing to sit
In a place less than esoteric,
I decided not to jeopardize
Green eyes flecked with brown,
Even though mottled leopard eyes
Live under lashes swooping down.
You see, I would skip the eyes
In a matter of color so tender.
The lashes are strokes to size,
But the irises prove tough to render!
So abstraction jilted at the door,
I polished each smear faint.
So frenetic were my lines, lest lore
Set in with wealthy paint.
You stood, the only succor a window sill,
And maybe you fell right out while tired,
But still I captured you in precise pencil --
Gestures slim that I admired.
On the shelves was welcome respite,
Rancid cakes -- here and there a gleeful lipid.
I will etch your every fidget,
No matter how insipid.
