Eloquent words on tattered page
A heart lay bare for generations
Tear stained and salty ink smeared
Carries to reader strong vibrations
Found in a trunk in attic dank
Letters held together by twine
Speaking of love forbidden once
That would stand the test of time
Great grand Mother demure and pure
Or so her family always thought
A torrid affair of the heart she had
Not what the lady was taught
He was a cowboy of roughest kind
Each year he would sidle on over
Then after the cows safely to town
He would take off once more a rover
Each year they would meet up by the ridge
Where rushing river cuts deep
Making love under the stars
While her husband was dead asleep
All that is left is the words on paper
Telling this old story so well
What ever became of this cowboy?
Seems Great Grandpa sent him to hell
