Rodents take to the desert --
So cruel and arid.
Against their will?
It must be so.
Rats are fashioned with
Grossly long legs.
Moles cope blindly
And do it well --
Without a brighter esthetic,
Like long-entrenched slaves
Who know not another way.
A couple believes in its destiny
In a heckled carriage:
The Awful Traffic.
Like the Barren Landscape.
Why burrow
In a land that grieves tearlessly
In perpetuity?
Flat too.
So few monuments
That the badlands
Mean
Confronting demons.
