Split Personality

Topic: NaturePoetry

Why do you play vexatious dual role, O Nature?
Not in tune with your image of Mother Nature.
How good and evil can ever go together?
Exorcise the evil in you; be a loving mother.

We live because you breathe for us eternally,
Carrying the aroma of flowers you float gently.
Your subtle embrace is refreshing and relaxing,
All thro’ ages, you sustain all forms of life, caring.
But, at times,
In a fit of furry, and like unbridled wild horse,
Galloping at alarming speed, unleash your force,
Uprooting and hurling all that comes on your way,
Leaving a trail of death and destruction all the way.

Gracefully you flow down, like a child toddling,
Majestically fall from dizzy heights, a feat alluring.
On the shore you play with the children, excited,
As they pick numerous shells, lay along drifted.
But, at times,
The evil in you surfacing, you behave rudely,
Rising to great heights, advancing menacingly,
You gulp down all that comes under your sway.
How dreadful! Are you rehearsing for doomsday?

Untiringly you spin; never would you give in,
For us to survive, day and night you usher in.
Patiently bear our burden day by day rising,
Not for a moment you would think of resting.
But, at times,
You go berserk, making rumbling noise you tremble,
Throw us off your bosom; sturdy buildings crumble.
Turn sweet homes into graves, bury alive great many;
Crushed bodies, protruding hands, a sight very ghastly.

You rock us like a babe in the cradle, very fondly,
Yet suddenly you fling us into the grave cruelly.
Why this duality, when you can play a role greater?
Nurture the goodness in you to be our caring mother.

We humans can’t match your strength and power,
Nor do we have the potential to challenge you ever.
Shed, Mr. Hyde, the evil in you, we do appeal humbly,
Don the role of Dr. Jekyll, to suit your innate nature aptly.
