An Assassins Remorse

Contributed by DesolantDreamer on Friday, 27th June 2008 @ 02:08:45 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

Fallen comrades litter the ground I walk on
Softly the wind blows about
A false peace, near silence
Try as I might, the tears wont stop falling
It's over now, the deed done
And I the last one standing
But what was the cost of the inner battle?
Was this fight worth the pain?
Wise men once said
The road to Hell is paved with good intentions
So down falls my blade
The clatter deafening in my ears
All the suffering, all the bloodshed
Torture me, choke me like a vice
Falling to the ground, clutching at my head as the screams come
At what cost was this massacre?
I was once one of them
Given any other circumstance, perhaps it would have been me
Laying dead at someone elses feet
My head is splitting open under the pressure
I can't think straight, my sight long since blurred by the salty rivers flowing down my cheeks
My torment, my hell, my sacrifice
Nothing's worth the pain, the loneliness
The blood of a child is on my hands, in my hair, on my face
I can't take it, I'm being torn apart
Forgive me, friends, forgive me God
I was blinded by the darkness
Lost in an infinate maze of betrayl and hate
Choking on my own vomit, I can't breate
Run me through with my blade, I beg
All my strength has left me as I collapse to the ground
Is it possible to die from a broken heart?
They told me 'no' but perhaps God will be gentle
And stop my life, send me to hell where I belong
Merciful God, end me now
A figure is standing over me now, red eyes bearing down upon my frame
"Pathetic" I hear him mumble and my wish is granted still
I smile as the blood drips down my chin, the pain in my back is nothing
It's over...I can take my punishment from God now....

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
