THE DREAM

Contributed by jsringo on Thursday, 19th June 2008 @ 11:46:03 AM in AEST
Topic: DreamsandWishes

An apparition appeared before me, in the dead of night
We have far to go and much to see, before the morning light
Why do you wish I join you, I do not understand
This ghostly figure urged me follow, as she took me by the hand

You will know why when I show you, but right now we must depart
There are so many places, I almost know not where to start
We are off to see your life, as it was back then to now
Take my hand and come with me and I will show you how

I tried voicing my objection, but she bid me not converse
Time seemed to slow abruptly then started running in reverse
My life began to flash before me, right before my eyes
The good the bad the very sad and yes the truth and lies

I saw Me in my school yard, a young Lad of nine or ten
I saw the faces of my many friends - friends from way back then
We chased each other madly, up and down the school yard hill
Laughing at each others antics until we've had our fill

We moved on then to when I'm older, fifteen would be my guess
When I felt that all was vital and would settle for none less
I believed in nothing or no one unless it could be seen
When everything was black or white and nothing in between

Again a shift and I'm a soldier, fighting in a war
While Bullets fly and people die and still they ask for more
I could see my country needed me and I was glad to go
Coming home was better far than anyone will ever know

Then It was that I awoke and I sat up straight in bed
It did not seem to be a dream but I thought it real instead
I scanned my room for any sign to show she had been there
And on my dresser lay a lock of her lovely golden hair

Wow Ringo....this is absolutely beautiful... I love how you took the reader from early childhood to the present... well executed...

I liked this. Your line:
'We have far to go and much to see, before the morning light'

Made me think of a well known poem I read and learnt off by heart a while ago. It also starts in a cold forrest clearing. I wish for the life of me I could recal what it is as googling this line hasn't helped.

Anyhow I guess it could just be coincidence.
Do let me know if you know the poem I am thinking of.
cheers.
