I Will Not

Contributed by DesolantDreamer on Sunday, 15th June 2008 @ 10:47:42 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I will not say I'm sorry
For keeping hope alive
Holding onto a dream that's finally within grasp

I will not say goodbye
To all the ones I love
So just trust my judgment for once

I will not lose my way
Just because I'm with him
I won't give up so easily

I will not fight for something
That has no future anyway
It takes two to tango, don't be so cold

I will not say I'm wrong
For following my heart
Why does everyone see the wrongs?

I will not stop because you don't like it
Let me prove that it's no mistake
Suddenly everyone makes their judgement

I will not let him use me
He isn't that way either
Stop making assumptions about him, you don't know him

I will not shrug off your advice
It'll be considered, I'll keep it with me
But use logic, not assumptions, reason instead of judgment

Wow! An intellectual art of rebellion. And well done at that. The rebellion in this alone is compelling the refusal to give up on someone because others feel it is not right to stand beside. Yet the power of this, ultimately was in the final three stanzas. This is where it is made clear that this is not simple rebellion. It's not simple "stand-up" bold wording. You are actually using your brain as well as your heart. You are proclaiming that you will consider advice. You are stating that those who oppose "him"
are making assumptions. Explaining that what they are saying is mostly coming from assumption and not rooted in truth. Which completely flips this from rebellion to understanding and begging urging others to consider things they are not. This is not just another "I am not listening to you" poem (which there are many of). This is a "I am listening to you but you are not listening to me" poem. A completely different experience all together. Something that can't be ignored because it lacks that "ignorance in rebellion ingredient". In fact perhaps it lacks rebellion all together. Simply it is "please listen to me I have something to say now that I have listened to all of you". A change of pace from the typical poems about the same topic. Very well received from this poet.

I might mention typically I wouldn't have read this poem at the glance, but the opening stanza is so damn powerful. It screams, it is a poem unto itself and I was held into this work from there until the end. Well done.

BRAVO

SCM
