Portals for Mortals

Watch people filter into coves
By the unabashed, motley droves
In hopes of finding other side,
But bulls in China’s shop collide.
They weep upon the solid bulwark
Without the pores to blast and uncork –
And poke a hole right through the earth,
Malleable patches somewhat dearth.
And do not see a throbbing lantern,
But only lava in its cistern,
Like a toxic and ironic vat,
And this fiery core can fall so flat.
