The portaloo
sits squat
defiant
in its concrete
grey
line corner curve line
way
11 o’ clock
pub doors close
and now
the emptying of bladders.
crude
perfunctory
the porterloo
holds its own captive
tinkling congregation
while poor
pale Alabasta St Pauls
looms, in shocked silence
unable to get away.
Somewhere a pencil drawing of the scene
containing my first moments of teenage rapture
at the unfolding of this architectural joke
is lost.
Stolen by a rival
A-leval art student
or more likely
taken by our teacher
Ms Curtis
who said our headmistress
would let her
let us
draw toilets

Glad you liked it! Was worrying it that it was a bit lost on most people, perhaps as you say because of the choice of topic. Or maybe because us Brits are using a term that is lost on the rest of the English speaking continents.. |
