Lieutenant Friend
And then there is Lt. Friend
Up and down, the back stairs again
It’s to that “stogie,” he’s left on the ledge
To last all day must be his pledge
Now of the Island, he had been bereft
Where he was back before he left
But with his same consistent style
He’d grin and bear it, with that big smile
Both kind and gentle, this we know
And water from his back would flow
Just like a duck, it is okay
Bad weather? It’s just another day
Think not of this, as an old wives’ tale
He’ll tell you himself, about the fire sale
How it makes no sense to sit around ailing
So he grabs the cooler, and sets out sailing
For him, this holds some special highs
And upon the waters is where he flies
It seems the place, which he loves best
This sanctuary, to put the mind to rest
